Israeli Ambassador in Berlin Criticizes German Government, Cites Rise in Anti-Semitism

The Israeli Ambassador in Berlin has criticized the German government despite Germany’s extensive political and military support for Israel, alleging a rise in anti-Semitism within German society.
Ran Brosh, the Israeli ambassador, claimed in an interview with German media that anti-Semitism in Germany has spread across various political factions, including left-wing, right-wing, and certain Islamic groups. He described left-wing factions as “more dangerous.”
Brosh alleged that some left-wing activists in Germany secretly support Hamas and exploit freedom of speech to promote the movement’s views. He called for a tough stance against students whom he said play a role in spreading anti-Semitism, even suggesting their expulsion.
The Israeli ambassador also stated that some Israeli artists are not invited to art festivals in Germany and are forced to conceal their identity—a sign, according to him, of increasing restrictions against Israelis in cultural circles.
These remarks come as Germany has offered broad political and military support to Israel during the Gaza war—a support that has been seriously criticized by human rights organizations and parts of public opinion due to the war’s humanitarian consequences and the high number of Palestinian civilian casualties.
