Russian Army General Killed in Car Bomb Explosion in Moscow

The Russian Investigative Committee announced that on Monday morning, December 22, a high-ranking Russian army general was killed in a car bomb explosion in Moscow.

According to official information, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Army headquarters, was the victim of the incident. Preliminary investigations into how the explosion occurred are ongoing.

International media report that the Russian Investigative Committee is examining one hypothesis that Ukrainian special forces may have been involved in planting the bomb; however, this has not yet been officially confirmed.

This incident comes after the Ukrainian security service previously claimed responsibility for a similar attack on a senior Russian officer in December 2024, adding further complexity to the already tense security situation between the two countries.
