Taliban Reiterates Commitment to Academic Standards in Afghan Universities

Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Administrative Deputy of the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office, emphasized the importance of adhering to scientific standards during a meeting with officials from Ibn Sina Private University. He stated that all public and private universities are obligated to provide quality academic services and maintain compliance with established benchmarks.

According to Hanafi, these standards must be implemented across all educational spheres to ensure higher education in the country proceeds in an organized manner within the announced frameworks. He reiterated that the Taliban administration considers the advancement of education a key priority.

During the same meeting, officials from Ibn Sina University described the adoption of up-to-date academic and research standards as critical to the development of sciences. They added that coordination between academic institutions and relevant authorities can help improve the quality of education.

However, some education experts believe that verbal commitments to academic standards will be effective only if accompanied by the creation of open educational spaces, equal access for all citizens, and tangible support for academic institutions—issues that, in practice, continue to raise serious questions and challenges.
