Half of Citizens in Nine European Countries View Trump as a Threat, Survey Finds
A recent survey conducted in Europe indicates widespread skepticism toward U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the research by the Paris-based think tank Le Grand Continent, approximately 48 percent of respondents across nine European countries described Trump as an enemy of Europe.
The findings show a marked variation among countries. In Belgium, 62 percent of respondents view Trump as a threat, followed by 57 percent in France. In contrast, only 19 percent of Polish respondents share that sentiment. Analysts suggest these discrepancies are likely rooted in the historical, political, and economic relationships each country maintains with the United States.
The survey covered France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Croatia. Participants also expressed concerns about potential future conflicts between Europe and Russia.
Experts believe the results reflect a broader European anxiety over the weakening influence of Western allies, particularly due to the unpredictable nature of U.S. leadership under Trump. They argue that Europe faces increasingly fragile security conditions, with many citizens worried about the continent’s inadequate defense structures.
