Taliban Officials Discuss Aid Coordination for Afghan Refugees

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation under the Taliban administration, held talks in Kabul with Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, the acting Minister of Economy. Mohammad Sohail Shaheen, the Taliban’s representative in Qatar, was also present at the meeting. The discussion centered on the mobilization and distribution of aid to Afghan refugees both inside and outside the country.
According to information released by the Ministry of Refugees, the Economy Minister said that a committee has been established within the framework of the Taliban’s High Commission to coordinate aid for refugees. Throughout this year, the committee has held meetings with business leaders, international and domestic organizations, and humanitarian agencies.
Mr. Hanif stated that the committee has developed a guideline for attracting foreign aid, which he believes could yield positive results. He also claimed that traders and charitable institutions have so far contributed nearly $15 million and 10 million Afghanis in goods, supplies, and cash to support refugees, which has reportedly been distributed with coordination from the ministry.
He added that following recent earthquakes in the country, additional assistance worth $13 million and one million Afghanis in supplies was procured by various organizations and individuals and sent to affected areas.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Economy and the Taliban’s Qatar office, claiming that substantial aid had been received from Arab countries. He expressed hope that the remaining issues faced by refugees and displaced persons would be resolved soon.
Despite repeated claims by the Taliban administration about securing international aid for refugees, there are ongoing concerns about the lack of transparency in managing these resources. The absence of independent media and monitoring organizations in the distribution process has further deepened mistrust. Human rights groups have repeatedly sounded the alarm over the dire conditions faced by Afghan refugees and the Taliban’s approach to internal displacement.
