20,000 Rounds of Ammunition Stolen from German Military

German media have revealed a major theft of ammunition from the country’s armed forces, raising serious concerns over the security of military equipment.

According to a report by Der Spiegel, approximately 20,000 bullets meant for delivery to a German military base went missing during transport by a civilian company. The incident is being seen as a significant failure in the logistical security of the German army.

The report states that the driver of the truck carrying the shipment had stopped overnight at a hotel and left the ammunition unsecured in the parking lot. This has triggered questions regarding oversight and safety standards in the transport of military hardware.

Citing security sources, Der Spiegel said the theft appeared to be a premeditated operation rather than a random act. Security agencies are now concerned that the stolen ammunition may fall into the hands of organized groups or criminal gangs, posing a potential threat to Germany’s internal security.
