France Suspends Diplomatic Ties With Taliban Over Women’s Rights Violations

France’s foreign ministry has said it has had no diplomatic relations with the Taliban administration since 2021, and that any improvement in ties depends on changes in Afghanistan’s political situation and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2593, which specifically includes respect for the rights of women and girls.
According to the ministry, France has provided more than 177 million euros in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan since August 2021 and has also taken in more than 17,000 Afghan refugees.
The French foreign ministry also said bilateral trade between Afghanistan and France reached 35.1 million euros in 2025.
The ministry stressed that cooperation with Afghanistan can only resume when tangible changes are made in the country’s political and security situation.
