UN warns millions in Afghanistan face mounting crisis and hardship

The United Nations, on the eve of its 81st anniversary, has released a video on Afghanistan’s volatile situation, stressing that millions of people in the country are under pressure from multiple crises, including conflict, poverty, forced displacement and the effects of climate change.

According to the UN, many Afghan families have been deprived of access to basic necessities, while social and structural restrictions have left women and girls especially vulnerable.

The UN also said it is working to distribute food aid, improve health services, provide nutrition, create educational opportunities and support displaced people and returnees.

It said lasting peace requires respect for human rights, genuine dialogue and the free participation of all segments of society, especially women and girls, warning that without these elements, stability in Afghanistan will remain out of reach.

Despite these international commitments, widespread poverty continues in Afghanistan, and the Taliban administration’s strict restrictions have excluded more than half of the country’s population, especially women and girls, from active participation in social life.
