El País Warns EU Risks Losing Global Influence Under US Pressure

Spain’s prominent newspaper El País has warned that the European Union is facing a threat to its global geopolitical standing due to its inability to resist increasing pressure from the United States, particularly under the leadership of President Donald Trump.

In a recent report, the newspaper stated that Brussels is deeply concerned about its internal security and stability, and has failed to respond effectively to Washington’s economic threats, including the imposition of new tariffs. According to El País, this excessive fear has nearly paralyzed the EU’s decision-making structures.

The report added that US efforts, led by President Trump, to impose its economic and digital policies on Europe exemplify the growing pressure that could undermine the continent’s independence. The European Commission, the newspaper noted, has also failed on a managerial level in this context.

The report cautioned that continued inaction could result in the EU losing its status as a key player in international affairs. It pointed to Brussels’ inability to effectively manage peace negotiations concerning Ukraine as further evidence of the EU’s deep structural weaknesses.

In conclusion, El País stressed that Europe must make urgent, coordinated, and independent decisions to preserve its strategic role and prevent further retreat on the global stage in the face of external threats.
