Trump claims migrants have taken over France and calls for border closure

U.S. President Donald Trump, reacting to recent unrest and protests in France, claimed that migrants have taken over the country and called for France’s borders to be shut immediately. The claim came as more than 2,400 people were arrested in France last weekend, with several major cities hit by large-scale protests, clashes between demonstrators and security forces, and looting of shops.
The unrest initially began over dissatisfaction with the education system and rising living costs, but it later also saw the destruction and looting of luxury stores and businesses in cities such as Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Lille. This points to the broad scale of France’s social crisis, which is tied to migration challenges as well.
Trump’s remarks, posted on the social media platform Truth Social, were made without providing precise evidence and strengthen suspicions that he is seeking to exploit France’s social problems for political gain. Such approaches could add to existing tensions in Europe and unrealistically intensify the link between migration and social unrest.
It is worth noting that France has hosted many migrant citizens in recent years, and policies related to migration and social management have been among the country’s most complex and contentious issues.
