Russia’s Foreign Minister Arrives in Tehran for Talks on Gulf Tensions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Tehran on Monday to exchange views with Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on ways to reduce tensions in the sensitive Gulf region.

Lavrov is also scheduled to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss regional developments and bilateral relations. The visits come after the Russian foreign minister attended a meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council foreign ministers in Manama before heading to Tehran.

According to the Tass news agency, Lavrov will stress the implementation of practical measures to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Tehran and Moscow and will brief the Iranian side on the main outcomes of his attendance at the Manama meeting.

Developments in the Gulf region, especially under current conditions, have made diplomatic dialogue between regional countries and global powers even more important. The close ties between Iran and Russia also play an important role in maintaining regional balance.
