Russia Criticizes France Over ‘Double Standards’ in Handling Public Protests

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, has described France’s handling of public protests and recent unrest as contradictory.

She said France takes decisive measures in response to domestic unrest, but adopts different and critical positions when it comes to protests in other countries.

Zakharova added that the French government condemns violence at home while supporting Western interventions in other countries under the pretext of human rights.

According to the Russian official, Western countries have often turned human rights into a tool for вмешательства in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and the same standards should be applied to all protests.
