Taliban suspends BBC Persian FM broadcasts in Afghanistan

BBC Persian says its radio programmes have been suspended on FM waves in Afghanistan, a move that limits listeners’ access to the broadcaster’s output.
On Tuesday, 13 October, the media outlet wrote on its Facebook page that it is in talks with Taliban officials to resolve the problem. BBC did not explain why its broadcasts on the FM band were suspended.
According to BBC Persian, its programmes for Afghanistan are still being broadcast, and listeners can continue to follow them on shortwave and medium-wave radio.
Since returning to power, the Taliban administration has imposed sweeping restrictions on media activity and has stopped broadcasts by a number of audio and visual media outlets.
