Taliban Foreign Minister Meets Turkish Diplomat in Kabul to Discuss Bilateral Ties

Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of the Taliban administration, met with Cenk Ünal, chargé d’affaires and counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, to bid him farewell and discuss the expansion of political and economic relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Ünal’s service during his mission in Afghanistan and highlighted Turkey’s regional role and the historical ties between the two nations. He also wished the Turkish diplomat success in his future assignments.

Ünal stated that he had fulfilled his mission in Afghanistan with the aim of strengthening ties between Kabul and Ankara, and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation undertaken at various levels.

Such meetings by the Taliban administration—whose international legitimacy remains in question—take place amid ongoing concerns from regional and global powers over its approach to human rights, girls’ education, and inclusive political participation.
