Narcotics police seize 614 kg of opium in Takhar

Takhar police command says anti-narcotics officers in the province have discovered and seized 614 kilograms of the narcotic opium during an operation.
According to the command, the shipment had been loaded in a private ambulance in Badakhshan province and was being transported through Takhar to an “unknown” destination.
This is the second reported case of opium being transported in a private ambulance in Takhar in less than a month. According to the information provided, about 20 days ago, 420 kilograms of opium were also discovered and seized from a private ambulance in the same province.
Takhar province is located in northeastern Afghanistan, and its transport routes linking several neighbouring provinces have in recent years repeatedly been mentioned in reports on drug smuggling.
