Road crash in Badakhshan leaves 15 rice harvest workers injured

Local Taliban administration officials in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province say a Mazda vehicle carrying rice harvest workers from Takhar to Badakhshan veered off the road and fell into a ravine early on Saturday in Darym district, leaving at least 15 people injured.
According to the officials, the accident happened around 1 a.m. in the “Aluchakhm” area on the border between the Darym and Teshkan districts, and the injured were taken from the scene to Badakhshan provincial hospital in Faizabad. The health condition of some of the injured is reported to be serious.
Mohammad Younus Jihadmal, the governor of Darym district, said the workers were returning home after finishing their work in Takhar province when the crash occurred. He added that district officials arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident, and the transfer of the injured was carried out with the cooperation of security forces.
According to the Darym district governor, a vehicle malfunction, driver negligence and the difficult terrain of the mountain pass were cited as possible causes of the incident.
The accident comes as mountainous roads and unsafe highways in parts of Afghanistan have repeatedly caused traffic accidents and casualties. Local Taliban administration officials in Logar province also said that in five traffic accidents over the past two days, two people were killed and seven others were injured.
