Taliban say 163 migrant families forced back into Afghanistan

The Taliban administration says 163 migrant families, comprising 678 people, were forcibly returned to Afghanistan yesterday, a development that once again highlights concerns over pressure on returning families.

Hamdullah Fitrat, a spokesman for the Taliban administration, claimed in a statement on Saturday, Oct. 10, that 37 families, including 169 people, entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing.

He said 99 families, comprising 384 people, returned to Afghanistan via the Pul-e-Abrisham route in Nimroz province. The statement also said that 19 families entered the country through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province, and eight families, including 81 people, came in through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat province.

The Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala and Pul-e-Abrisham crossings are among the main routes used by migrants for travel and return in eastern, south-western and western Afghanistan.
