Turkish parliament official urges Afghan students to return home after graduation

Fuat Oktay, chairman of the Turkish parliament’s foreign affairs committee, has urged Afghan students to return to Afghanistan after completing their studies and help contribute to the country’s development and reconstruction, during a meeting with a delegation from the Afghan Students Council in Turkey.
In a statement issued on Friday, 17 Mehr, the Afghan Students Council said, citing Oktay, that there are currently 10,000 Afghan students in Turkey.
According to the statement, Oktay described Afghanistan as a country with “rich resources,” a “capable workforce” and a “young population,” saying that focusing on these strengths could speed up the process of building Afghanistan’s future.
The chairman of the Turkish parliament’s foreign affairs committee also referred to his own experience of studying outside his country, saying he had always stressed the importance of returning to Turkey and had encouraged many friends to go back and serve their own country.
He went on to urge Afghan students to look at Afghanistan’s future with the same perspective and use the knowledge and experience they gain abroad for the country’s reconstruction.
At the meeting, Seyed Soleiman Nabil also said that Afghan students, alongside their educational discussions, are thinking about how to build Afghanistan’s future and about “designing the country’s foreign policy,” so that Afghanistan can play a more active role globally and at least assume a leadership role at the national and regional levels.
