Turkey says it will not send offensive force under ‘Mecca Agreement’

Turkey’s foreign minister has said the country will not deploy any force to attack or wage war against other countries under the so-called ‘Mecca Agreement,’ stressing that the pact is defensive.
According to Mehr News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen, Hakan Fidan said the Mecca Agreement is not offensive and that if one of the three member states is attacked, the other two will stand by it.
He added that the military committees operating under the agreement are reviewing ways to participate in supporting Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks, referring to Yemen’s armed forces.
In another part of his remarks, the Turkish foreign minister warned that the rise in attacks on ships in the Black Sea has affected international shipping security, and said the sea must not be allowed to become a ‘new front’ in the Russia-Ukraine war.
