UNICEF Says Solar Water Systems, Sanitation Services Expanded in Parwan

Tajudeen Oyewale, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, has said that the expansion of water supply systems and water, sanitation and hygiene services in Parwan province has helped improve people’s access to clean water.

He reported on Thursday, 16 October, that UNICEF had expanded solar-powered water supply networks in various parts of the province and, at the same time, increased related water and sanitation services.

According to Oyewale, these services have been provided in schools, health centres and local communities, creating better access to clean water for residents in the covered areas.

The UNICEF representative also added that this year, no cases of dehydration-related illnesses have been reported in the areas where these programmes have been implemented.

UNICEF has previously reiterated that sustainable access to clean water and proper sanitation services plays a key role in protecting children’s health and preventing the spread of disease.
