Afghan Man, 27, Killed in Gunfight With German Police in Tuttlingen

German media have reported that a 27-year-old Afghan man in the city of Tuttlingen, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, was killed by return fire after shooting at police officers.
According to police officials, the man was seen carrying a weapon in the grounds of Tuttlingen town hall before the shooting began, prompting police to be sent to the scene.
A spokesperson for the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office said the man “fired directly” and police responded. According to the spokesperson, the man was struck by gunfire and died at the scene despite efforts to save his life.
A Tuttlingen police spokesperson also confirmed that the person killed was an Afghan national and said an investigation into the incident has been launched. German officials have so far not released further details about his identity.
According to the Baden-Württemberg Criminal Police Office, the Afghan national had previous encounters with police. No one else, including police officers, was injured in the incident.
Following the shooting, Tuttlingen town hall was closed until the end of Thursday and police cordoned off the area. Tuttlingen is a city in southwest Germany in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
