Iran says Milak border crossing to operate around the clock within a month

Iranian authorities have announced that the Milak border crossing in Nimroz province will be ready for 24-hour operations within a month and will begin functioning around the clock, in a move aimed primarily at increasing capacity for transit trucks at the crossing.

According to Irav, a joint economic meeting between a delegation from Nimroz province and officials from Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan governorate was held on Wednesday, 15 Mehr, at the Milak border terminal. The two sides discussed the practical requirements for round-the-clock operations and for increasing transit capacity.

At the meeting, Saifullah Mohammadi, the head of the office of the Taliban governor in Nimroz, claimed that the province’s customs office is fully prepared to receive and process transit trucks, and that “whatever number of trucks enters, the necessary handling will be carried out.”

Meanwhile, the deputy governor for economic affairs of Sistan and Baluchestan and other Iranian officials said preparations are under way to make the Milak crossing operational around the clock, while increasing the capacity to receive cargo vehicles is also on the agenda. According to official reports, executive agencies have been tasked with reviewing infrastructure, equipment and staffing needs to pave the way for the plan.

Iranian officials also announced a similar plan for the “Gomshad border” and said arrangements to begin operations there are also being pursued within the next month. They said the plan is intended to help boost transit capacity along the Iran-Afghanistan route.

The Milak crossing on the border between Nimroz province and Sistan and Baluchestan province is considered one of the key routes for movement and cargo transfer between the two sides, and any change in its operating hours directly affects truck waiting times and the daily volume of crossings.
