Taliban activates two automated weather stations in Maidan Wardak and Daikundi

The Meteorology Department of the Taliban-run Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that it has installed and activated two “advanced and automated” weather stations in the Chak district of Maidan Wardak province and in Daikundi province.
According to the department, the devices are capable of automatically recording and analysing weather conditions so that forecasts can be made more accurately.
Based on the explanation provided, the data collected at these stations includes rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, and air pressure.
The Taliban administration said the purpose of installing the equipment is to collect “accurate” information about weather conditions. However, it did not provide details on the cost, the source of funding, or how the public and local institutions will access this information.
