Intercept: Damage to US Bases Casts Doubt on Washington’s Return to the Region

A US media outlet has reported that damage inflicted on US military bases in the region has cast doubt on the possibility of confirming the country’s “return” to the Middle East.
The US-based outlet The Intercept, citing American officials, wrote that a number of major US bases in the region have suffered “heavy” damage, with some of them having been completely shut down. According to these sources, there is also the possibility that the structure of these bases may never return to its pre-war condition.
According to the report, Iran targeted “more than 15 US bases” in the region. It was also said that the US military has recently withdrawn 12 of its B-1 bombers from a base in Britain.
The report further said that Chris Murphy, a US senator, stated that the Pentagon prevented him from accessing a key US military base in Qatar during his trip to West Asia, describing the move as part of the US administration’s efforts to conceal the consequences of the war with Iran.
Reuters also wrote on the matter that Al Udeid Air Base, described as the largest US base in the region, was repeatedly targeted by Iranian attacks during the war that, according to the report, the US and Israel began in February.
