Hamas condemns Ben-Gvir’s presence at Jerusalem home demolition

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has condemned the presence of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir at the site of the demolition of a residential building in the al-Tur neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem, describing it as “provocative.”

According to Shehab News Agency, Hamas said in a statement that Ben-Gvir’s personal presence during the incident was “a symbol of organized terrorism” and referred to him as someone who, the movement said, supports “extremism and crime.”

Hamas added that the increase in demolitions in occupied Jerusalem, including the demolition of a five-storey residential building in al-Tur that it said was carried out under Ben-Gvir’s direct supervision, is taking place in the context of election campaigning by Israeli officials.

The movement held the Israeli government responsible for continuing what it called a “repressive and fascist approach,” and warned that the continuation of these policies could have “further consequences on the ground.”

Hamas also stressed that these actions, it said, would not break the “will of the Palestinian people,” and that Palestinians would continue along the path of resistance.

The group called on the international community and human rights bodies to “immediately intervene” to stop home demolitions and prevent the displacement of Palestinians, while also urging the Palestinian people to activate means of confronting house demolitions in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the “1948 occupied territories.”

East Jerusalem is one of the disputed areas in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the demolition of Palestinian homes there has repeatedly drawn reactions from Palestinian groups and human rights organisations.
