ISIS Claims Responsibility for Fayzabad Blast as Resistance Front Gives Different Account

The ISIS-Khorasan branch has claimed responsibility for a motorcycle bombing in the city of Fayzabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, but its account of the target and casualties differs from that of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 12 Mizan, ISIS claimed that a Taliban intelligence official had been the target of the attack. The group said the explosion killed one of the official’s guards and wounded the official himself along with another guard.

Earlier, the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan had also said its forces had killed the Taliban intelligence deputy chief in Badakhshan in a targeted operation. The front claimed that two of the official’s guards were also killed in the attack.

The two groups have offered different accounts of the casualties and how the attack unfolded.
