Taliban Official Visits Iran to Review Afghan Migrants’ Identity Verification Process

Mawlawi Mohammad Nabi Nusrat, Deputy for Civil Registration Affairs in the Taliban-led National Statistics and Information Authority, has traveled to Iran to oversee and improve the process of verifying the identities of Afghan migrants.
During his visit, Nusrat toured key Iranian cities including Tehran, Mashhad, and Zahedan to assess the activities of work teams tasked with identifying Afghan migrants. According to official Taliban sources, he is expected to offer recommendations and guidance to relevant authorities in an effort to enhance the process.
Millions of Afghans have fled to neighboring countries, particularly Iran, in recent years due to insecurity, unemployment, and political pressure. While identity verification is essential for accessing basic services and obtaining legal documentation, the Taliban’s handling of the issue has often drawn criticism.
Some migrant rights organizations have described the Taliban’s efforts as inadequate and lacking transparency. They argue that the Taliban must provide clear and accountable measures to ensure Afghan migrants receive transparent and effective support in host countries.
