Medvedev Says U.S. Strike on Iran Backfired on Washington

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said in a recent interview that the U.S. attack on Iran had hurt the United States itself. He urged Washington to learn from the experience and added that dialogue costs less than warmongering.

Medvedev also said Russia has supported Iran in recent years through diplomacy and its veto power on the UN Security Council. According to him, Moscow has blocked resolutions that could have opened the way for legal pressure or military action against Iran. He said Russia has no evidence for Western claims that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons and dismissed those allegations as unfounded.

The Russian Security Council deputy chairman described the security situation in the Middle East as dire and blamed the escalation on U.S. and Israeli actions. He characterized U.S. military bases in the region as the centre of the crisis and claimed they do not provide security but instead expose host countries to retaliatory attacks.

Medvedev said Russia has drawn up a plan for collective security in the Middle East based on regional cooperation, the removal of foreign bases and the strengthening of local security mechanisms. The Russian official also said political bargaining models do not create lasting security.

In another part of his remarks, he described Ukraine as a tool used by the West to pressure Russia and said Western countries are using Kyiv for that purpose. Medvedev said Russia’s victory in what Moscow calls its ‘special military operation’ is necessary, and described Ukraine’s neutrality and the abandonment of extreme nationalism as the way to end the crisis.

Medvedev also said the suspension of economic and energy cooperation between Europe and Russia had caused inflation, rising energy prices and repeated economic crises in Europe. He said the West itself cut the ties of cooperation and is now facing the consequences, according to the report by Irav quoting the Russian official.
