Afghan Political Missions Condemn Pakistan’s Strikes on Helmand and Kunar

The Coordination Council of Afghanistan’s political and consular missions has condemned Pakistan’s recent air strikes on parts of Helmand and Kunar provinces, and called on the United Nations and the international community to act to protect civilians, especially women and children.
In a statement, the council described the strikes as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and international humanitarian law, and expressed sympathy with the victims. It said the people of Afghanistan, after decades of war, deserve freedom, peace, security and a future shaped by their own will and choice.
The Taliban administration says nine civilians were killed in the Pakistani air strikes carried out early on Thursday, 9 Mehr, in Helmand and Kunar. Pakistan, in response, said it targeted hideouts of “terrorists” and their ammunition storage sites, adding that 22 of them were killed in the attacks.
The Coordination Council of Afghanistan’s political and consular missions is made up of several missions operating under diplomats from the former republican government and outside Taliban control.
