Some Countries Still Not Ready to Engage With Taliban Administration, Spokesman Says

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban administration, says a number of countries are still not ready to engage with it. He added that the Taliban administration is working to expand diplomatic ties and win the trust of other countries.

Mujahid called for a change in foreign relations approaches left over from the war era and said the Taliban administration wants positive engagement with countries instead. He said: “We want relations with other countries to be established properly, and for wartime policies toward countries to change, so that we can enter into positive engagement.”

The Taliban administration spokesman described its ties with China and Russia as “very good” and said efforts are also under way to improve relations with other countries. In a brief reference to rising tensions with Islamabad, he claimed the Taliban administration has had good diplomatic relations with neighboring countries, including Pakistan.
