Taliban summons Pakistan envoy over Nuristan incident

The Taliban administration’s foreign ministry summoned the charge d’affaires of Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul on Tuesday and handed him a protest note over a recent incident in Nuristan.

In a statement on its X page, the ministry claimed that a number of people had entered Kamdesh district from the Durand Line and intended to carry out destructive activities, but Taliban forces prevented them.

The Taliban administration’s defence ministry had earlier said 28 people were killed and 32 others were detained in recent clashes in the area. The Afghanistan Freedom Front, an anti-Taliban group, also claimed its fighters had clashed with the administration’s forces in Nuristan and inflicted casualties on them. The claims by both sides have not been independently verified.

The Taliban administration’s foreign ministry described what it called actions by the Pakistani government as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and said those actions were contrary to Islamic, international, human and neighbourly principles. It warned that if such actions continued, responsibility for any adverse consequences would lie with the “military regime of Pakistan.”
