UK diesel prices hit record high as fuel costs rise
The average price of diesel in England has risen to £1.9918 per litre, surpassing the previous record set in 2022. With the increase, the cost of filling a typical family car with a 55-litre tank now stands at about £110.
According to the motoring services company RAC, the previous record diesel price was set in June 2022 at £1.9909 per litre. The current cost of filling such vehicles is £31 higher than in the period before the start of the war against Iran.
Simon Williams, RAC’s head of policy, warned that rising diesel prices would not only put pressure on drivers, but could also push up the price of goods and services that rely on diesel transport. He said the increase would ultimately be passed on to consumers.
Alongside diesel, petrol prices have also been rising since late February and have reached £1.74 per litre. On this basis, filling a car tank completely now costs an average of £95.8, which is £22.8 more than before the start of US and Israeli attacks against Iran.
