UNAMA says Afghanistan has vast tourism potential and rich historical heritage
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has said that Afghanistan has significant tourism potential and is home to diverse historical, cultural and natural heritage.
Marking World Tourism Day, UNAMA said ancient cities, historic mosques, natural landscapes and important archaeological sites are among Afghanistan’s most notable assets in this sector.
The mission cited the Hindu Kush mountain range, the Bamiyan valley, the Herat Citadel and the Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif as part of Afghanistan’s most important historical and cultural heritage.
World Tourism Day is observed every year to highlight the role of tourism in introducing cultures, historical heritage and the economic potential of countries. Despite decades of war, Afghanistan still contains some of the region’s best-known historical and natural sites.
