Blast in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan kills 11, injures 30

An explosion in the northwestern Pakistani city of Dera Ismail Khan has killed 11 people and injured 30 others.

Reuters, citing Pakistan’s rescue service, reported that the incident occurred on Saturday.

According to a report by Pakistan’s TNN network, citing local sources, the blast took place at the Aman Meela checkpoint in the Darazinda area on the outskirts of Dera Ismail Khan. Those sources said a vehicle carrying explosives may have struck the checkpoint.

Following the incident, rescue teams were dispatched to the site and transferred the injured to hospitals. The bodies of 11 victims were also recovered from the area.

After the explosion, more police forces were sent to the area and rescue operations continued. Dera Ismail Khan is one of the cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan.
