UN Urges Netanyahu to Respect the Dignity of the General Assembly
The UN secretary-general’s spokesperson, reacting to Benjamin Netanyahu’s display of a pager at the organisation’s General Assembly, said speakers should respect the seriousness and dignity of the venue.
Stefan Dujarric said at a news briefing yesterday, in response to a question about Netanyahu’s use of the device to refer to operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon: “We cannot limit the freedom of expression of leaders, but we hope that everyone who speaks at the UN will respect the seriousness and dignity of this place.”
On Thursday, during his speech to the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu displayed a pager and said the Israeli regime had used these booby-trapped devices to kill or maim hundreds of Hezbollah forces and Lebanese civilians.
According to the news source, he spoke proudly of the operation against the people of Lebanon. The UN General Assembly is one of the international body’s main annual meetings, where national leaders present their views and positions.
