Afghan Post and Iran Post Sign Pact to Expand Postal Cooperation
Afghan Post and Iran Post have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand postal cooperation and make use of existing capacities to support e-commerce between Afghanistan and Iran. The main focus of the agreement is said to be facilitating the transfer of commercial parcels and online orders between the two countries.
According to the Iranian side, implementing this cooperation could make it easier to send official online orders and help Iranian businesses enter the Afghan market. The side said the move would also create conditions for the more regular transfer of commercial parcels between the two countries.
The cooperation follows previous talks between officials of Afghan Post and Iran Post. The two sides had earlier also discussed expanding postal cooperation, e-commerce, and air and land transit shipments.
In a meeting in September, officials from the two institutions stressed the exchange of experience and the strengthening of joint cooperation in postal services. Afghan Post managers are also due to travel to Iran in late October to discuss how the agreements can be implemented with Iran Post officials.
According to the report, the infrastructure for exchanging parcels between the two countries has also been prepared via Razavi Khorasan and the Mashhad-Kabul flight. This route can be used for transferring commercial parcels and online orders between Afghanistan and Iran.
In recent months, Afghan Post has shown greater attention to e-commerce. In July, the company also announced the launch of the ‘Afghan Market’ platform for registering and selling goods for online traders.
