Hanif Atmar Urges UN to Stop Pakistan’s Attacks on Afghanistan

Hanif Atmar, Afghanistan’s former foreign minister, has called on the UN secretary-general and the Security Council to take immediate action to stop Pakistan’s continued attacks on Afghan territory.

He said these attacks are in conflict with Afghanistan’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and amount to a clear violation of international law, the principles of peaceful coexistence and good-neighbourly relations.

Atmar also stressed the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2721, adding that the international community must prevent such attacks from happening again.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 2721 was adopted following developments in Afghanistan and underscores a more active role for the UN in following up on issues related to the country.
