UNDP Builds 35 Climate-Resilient Greenhouses in Central Afghanistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan has announced that it has established 35 climate-resilient greenhouses in central parts of the country, creating jobs for 225 people, including 105 women.

The agency said on Thursday, 2 October, that the greenhouses were built to help farmers cope with the effects of climate change. According to UNDP, the greenhouses use low-energy technologies and smart water management practices.

The agency said these technologies can reduce water consumption and protect agricultural products from extreme weather events. UNDP added that the project helps produce crops throughout all seasons, strengthen food security, and provide more stable income for families.

The United Nations Development Programme also said it supports thousands of farmers in different parts of Afghanistan to boost agricultural production in the face of challenges caused by climate change.

UNDP is one of the United Nations agencies working in development, poverty reduction and strengthening the resilience of communities in different countries, and in Afghanistan part of its programmes is focused on supporting livelihoods and agriculture.
