WHO Warns of Botulism Risk From Spoiled Food

The World Health Organization has warned of a rising risk of botulism from eating spoiled or improperly stored food, and has stressed the importance of seeking timely medical care to prevent the illness from worsening.
The agency said on Tuesday, 31 Sunbula, on X that botulism is a serious disease caused by toxins in contaminated food.
The WHO said stomach pain, vomiting, weakness, blurred vision, difficulty speaking and trouble breathing are among the symptoms of the disease.
According to the organization, early diagnosis and getting medical help at the right time can prevent the patient’s condition from becoming more severe and save lives.
The WHO also emphasized proper storage and safe preparation of food, saying that following food safety principles plays an important role in preventing botulism.
Botulism is a rare but dangerous disease usually linked to eating contaminated food or food stored in unsafe conditions, which is why health authorities stress adherence to food safety standards.
