France Welcomes Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts Between Iran and the US

France’s foreign ministry said the country welcomes Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States and supports advancing inclusive dialogue.

The issue was raised in a meeting between French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two sides also discussed regional developments during the meeting.

According to the French foreign ministry, Barrot said in the meeting that the talks should help ensure the security of energy supplies and provide a lasting solution to what Paris describes as threats from Iran in the nuclear, missile and regional areas.

Pakistan’s foreign ministry also said the two sides stressed the continuation of diplomatic engagement and regional efforts to resolve the crisis. According to the ministry, the meeting also underlined the need to implement the Islamabad understanding between Iran and the United States.

The two sides also agreed on expanding bilateral relations in academic, cultural and sustainable development fields. The UN General Assembly is held every year in New York and is considered one of the most important opportunities for bilateral meetings between government officials from different countries.
