Zelensky says halting attacks on Ukraine infrastructure key to easing tensions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said attacks on the country’s critical infrastructure, energy sector and food exports must stop, calling it a step that could lead to reciprocal measures to ease tensions.

In a message posted on social media platform X on Monday, he wrote that Russia’s war against Ukraine must end and that its continuation is creating more problems every week. Zelensky stressed that Kyiv has sought peace since the start of the war.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine has so far presented dozens of diplomatic proposals to end the war, aimed at preserving dignity, ensuring security and preventing fresh Russian attacks. He also said talks are under way with Donald Trump, the US president, and with the United States.

The Ukrainian president added that plans to move closer to peace are on the table and that this process could begin with decisive steps to reduce tensions. He said discussions on the issue are also due to be held with Ukraine’s partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Ukraine has been at war with Russia since February 2022. Alongside heavy casualties, the conflict has also damaged the country’s civilian infrastructure and export routes.
