Trump’s Special Envoy to Visit Moscow Amid Diplomatic Push on Ukraine War

Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, will soon travel to Moscow. According to Yuri Ushakov, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Russian President, the visit will take place as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Moscow, and Witkoff will be accompanied by an official delegation from the U.S. government.

Witkoff’s trip comes as Trump has reiterated that he will not meet with either Russian President Vladimir Putin or Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky until an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is reached between Moscow and Kyiv. The U.S. president’s statements may be interpreted as a strategic move to pressure both parties involved in the conflict.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Secretary of the Army, after holding talks with a Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi, is scheduled to meet with a Ukrainian delegation in the coming days. These discussions signal renewed U.S. efforts aimed at playing a role in ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.

This active American engagement in the Ukraine conflict occurs while the Taliban administration, despite the direct and indirect impacts of the crisis on the region, has refrained from adopting a clear and responsible stance, effectively suspending Afghanistan’s diplomatic activities. The Taliban government’s indifference on the international stage, particularly in relation to major global issues, once again highlights its lack of legitimacy and inability to represent the interests of the Afghan people.
