Taliban Authorities Discuss Chicken and Egg Exports with Iran
The Taliban authorities have said they held talks with Iran on expanding cooperation in agriculture and livestock, as well as on exporting Afghan eggs and chicken to Iran.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said the issue was raised during a meeting between the ministry’s acting head, Ataullah Omari, and Iran’s ambassador, Alireza Bikdeli, in Kabul. According to the ministry, a visit by a technical delegation from Afghanistan to Iran was also among the subjects discussed.
Based on the Taliban authorities’ statement, the two sides also exchanged views on technical cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors. No details were provided about the timing of the delegation’s visit or the possible volume of exports.
The Iranian ambassador also said his country’s private sector was ready to cooperate in Afghanistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors. According to him, this readiness also includes establishing textile factories in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock is one of the bodies under Taliban rule responsible for managing agricultural and livestock affairs. Iran is one of Afghanistan’s important neighbours, and part of the two countries’ trade relations has focused on the export and import of agricultural products.
