Special Exam for Blind and Partially Sighted Students to Be Held in Four Provinces

The Independent Examinations Board has announced that, for the first time in Afghanistan, a special exam for blind and partially sighted people will be held. The exam will take place on Thursday, the 2nd of Jadi, at designated centres in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kabul, Balkh and Herat.

Naser Khan Weband, spokesman for the Independent Examinations Board, said blind and partially sighted participants who pass the exam will be able to enter universities and continue their higher education up to bachelor’s level.

According to him, holding this exam is part of a process designed to provide this group with access to higher education.

Last year, a tripartite agreement was also signed between the Independent Examinations Board, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Department of Technical and Vocational Education. Under this agreement, in addition to holding a dedicated exam for blind graduates in the country, the necessary facilities have also been provided for them.

The Independent Examinations Board is responsible for organising nationwide and special exams in Afghanistan, and this exam comes at a time when access for people with disabilities to educational services and specialised facilities has long been one of the country’s major challenges.
