OCHA says funding cuts are disrupting access to essential services for millions in Afghanistan

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said that cuts to humanitarian funding have disrupted access to essential services for millions of people in Afghanistan.

In a post on X on Thursday, 26 September, OCHA said the funding reductions had created widening gaps in the provision of basic services across Afghanistan. According to the agency, the situation has made it more difficult for people in need in various sectors.

The agency said the shortage of funds has affected food, health care, education, nutrition, clean water and shelter. OCHA added that millions of people across Afghanistan continue to face growing humanitarian needs.

OCHA has called on the international community to take action to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The agency is responsible for coordinating UN emergency aid and regularly monitors humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.
