Trump Hints at Possible Breakthrough in Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks
U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested the possibility of a significant breakthrough in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
In a cautiously worded message posted on social media Sunday night, Trump said, “There may be a major breakthrough in the Ukraine-Russia talks; something good might happen, although I won’t believe it until I see it myself.”
His remarks come after repeated and largely unsuccessful international attempts to end the conflict in Ukraine since its outbreak in 2022, which has fueled widespread global concern.
German government spokesperson also weighed in on Monday, stating that the Geneva talks addressing the Ukraine crisis had been evaluated positively. He emphasized the importance of European consensus among EU member states.
France’s foreign minister likewise described recent discussions between Western countries and the United States on Ukraine as “constructive,” noting that the meetings had been “helpful” and paved the way for future steps.
On November 23, representatives from the United States, Ukraine, and several European nations gathered in Geneva to review a peace plan proposed by Trump. The proposal, consisting of 28 articles, was presented as a framework to end the war.
According to the controversial terms of Trump’s proposal, Ukraine would be required to cede part of its territory to Russia, reduce its military forces, and abandon its pursuit of NATO membership. These provisions have sparked significant criticism and concern from intellectuals, analysts, and nations supporting Kyiv.
