Iran and Taliban Officials Discuss Economic Cooperation and Afghan Refugees in Kabul Meeting

Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, the acting Minister of Economy under the Taliban administration, met on Sunday in Kabul with Alireza Bikdeli, the acting ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The two sides discussed expanding economic cooperation between the two countries and addressing the situation of Afghan refugees in Iran.

According to an official statement from the ministry, the meeting involved exchanges on strengthening trade relations, investment opportunities, Iran’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, and the condition of returnees from neighboring countries.

During the meeting, Hanif presented a positive picture of Afghanistan’s economic situation to Bikdeli, claiming that there are now favorable conditions for investment and progress across various sectors. He also expressed appreciation for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s collaboration in economic matters and for its humanitarian aid.

In response, the Iranian diplomat claimed that Iran’s economic cooperation with the Taliban administration is on an upward trajectory. He praised certain Taliban policies, including a focus on economic infrastructure, financial management, and support for the private sector, as effective strategies.

The discussions come amid ongoing international diplomatic isolation of the Taliban administration, which has yet to be officially recognized by any major government. Meanwhile, concerns persist over the welfare of Afghan citizens, particularly refugees in Iran, and humanitarian aid continues to progress slowly.
