Taliban Says More Than 704,000 Tonnes of Goods Transported by Rail in August 2026
The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Works said on Monday that more than 704,000 tonnes of goods were imported or exported through Afghanistan’s railway network in August 2026. According to the ministry, total traffic across the four main rail routes reached 704,300 tonnes.
Based on the figures released, the Hairatan route handled the largest share, with 464,767 tonnes transported along it. It was followed by the Khaf-Herat line with 137,687 tonnes, Torgundi with 62,015 tonnes, and Aqina with 39,831 tonnes.
The Taliban administration also said part of the traffic was for export, including 3,751 tonnes of soft drinks sent abroad. However, it did not provide further details on the export destination or the exact share of other exported items.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Works claims that the expansion of rail transport and increased exports can help create jobs, boost national revenue and support economic stability. The ministry added that the Taliban administration is working to improve trade conditions and develop transport facilities for Afghan traders.
Afghanistan currently uses four main railway corridors in Hairatan, Khaf-Herat, Torgundi and Aqina to move goods, routes that play an important role in trade with neighbouring countries.
