Afghanistan trust fund’s assets reach $661 million

Shah Mohammad Mehrabi, a member of the board of the Afghanistan Trust Fund, said the fund’s assets have reached $661 million since its establishment.
He added that the fund’s assets were not intended to finance humanitarian aid or cover government expenses, but rather were created to preserve Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves.
According to Mehrabi, the fund was established after part of Afghanistan’s assets remained frozen abroad and the need arose for a mechanism to safeguard them.
The Afghanistan Trust Fund was created in Switzerland in September 2022. It was established to hold $3.5 billion in Afghan assets transferred by the United States.
