National Resistance Front claims deadly attack on Taliban-appointed mayor in Badakhshan

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan has claimed responsibility for an attack on the vehicle carrying Abdul Rahman Mansoor, the Taliban-appointed mayor in Fayzabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, in which he and his bodyguards were killed, the group said.

The front said on Thursday, 22 Asad 1405, that its forces targeted the vehicle carrying the Taliban-appointed mayor for Fayzabad. According to the National Resistance Front, the incident took place 100 metres from the Badakhshan provincial governor’s office.

Local sources had previously confirmed the killing of the Taliban-appointed mayor. However, the Taliban administration has so far said nothing about the incident or the casualties resulting from it.

The National Resistance Front added that it carries out its attacks in various parts of Afghanistan with the aim of what it called ‘liberating the people and the country from under the illegitimate rule of the Taliban.’ Fayzabad is the capital of Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan, a province that has at times witnessed security incidents and targeted attacks.
